VGA to HDMI Cable
VGA to HDMI cable is mentioned more frequently today since HDMI becomes increasingly popular in the area of multimedia video. Especially given the fact that PC and high-definition TV are commonly seen in almost all families, naturally an idea would just occur – can I directly connect my computer to the high-definition television?
If you also have such kind of query, you can be assured that definitely there is solution to achieve this kind of connection. And to many people, VGA to HDMI cables are one of possible options that come to mind first.

Which VGA HDMI cable you should choose?
Here is one typical scenario you might run into when you doing the connection between PC and displays. For example, your computer only comes with one VGA port and your high-definition TV comes with both VGA and HDMI ports. And then the question comes up again – what cable should you pick and which one would be the best possible solution? Actually it really depends on your specific requirements. OK let’s do some analysis as follows.
VGA to VGA cable
This type of cable is the most convenient and easy solution since both of them have the same type of port. The advantage of it is that the signal doesn’t need to convert into other signal format. These cables won’t lose any video information during transmission and the cost is also quite low due to skipping the conversion process. And if the distance between your computer and display devices is quite long, you have to add a VGA extension cable too.
VGA to HDMI adapter cable
As you might know that VGA is an analog display standard, which is based on the VESA standard. Compared to the this video interface standard, HDMI is digital signal, which is with better stability and functionality. In addition, the anti-interference performance and signal strength of HDMI are far higher than the analog signal. However, when it comes to the conversion between them, actually it needs to go through three steps, namely analog signal output + converting analog input into digital input + digital signal display. During the conversion process, there will be interference and signal attenuation, which in the end may affect the picture quality. Because of this reason, there is a lot of controversy about VGA to HDMI cable. The situation here is totally different from DVI to HDMI cable, which is converting the signal just between two different digital interfaces.
VGA to HDMI cable and converter
As just mentioned, HDMI is a high-resolution multimedia interface, which is a pure digital signal. It carries not only audio information but also video information. However, VGA is analog signal, which only carries video information. Logically pure digital signal is always better than analog signal.
When it comes to conversion between them, there are VGA to HDMI converter box and VGA to HDMI cable. But from the property of these two different interfaces, it does not make any sense at all by simply using a passive cable to get over the technical gap between analog and digital signals conversion. However, this type cable does exist and you can find them easily in market. So what is the reason for that? The secret is that it needs the special support from some kinds of devices such as TV set-up box, DVD player, and HDD/PMP player, which are able to transmit digital HDMI signals through VGA port. From this respective, no matter it is a VGA HDMI cable or a HDMI to VGA cable, it can not be used as a PC to TV cable.
For regular PC to TV connections, the VGA HDMI converter box is the best and sole solution. Or in other situations like S-Video or component ports available on you TV, you can choose VGA S Video cable and VGA to component cable as well because all of them are analog signals and can be converted easier with simply a passive cable. For VGA to HDMI cable, unfortunately it is quite little that it can do for your regular PC to TV connections.
